As of September 2018 NETGEAR has revised this model and made it nearly impossible to install 3rd party firmware like Tomato and DD-WRT. Since I want to flash my router with Tomato to enable enhanced settings, and more importantly activating the built-in adblocker, this router is completely useless to me. Unless you want to open up the router, and connect a USB-TTL cable to the Serial Console where can I get dd-wrt (for my R7000) which apparently is the only safe step short of disconnecting the router. how sad that Netgear failed to fix it or estimate fix date that's one vendor to
DD-WRT router specific needs I am looking to run Nord off my router, but it also needs to be able to run a sub network off a N300 netgear. The sub doesn't need to be under the VPN however i would also like a guest network to connect smart devices to.

@bvilchez do you mean to say that you have attempted to load the R7000 firmware available here to your R6900 router but have been unsuccessful?. Like everyone else on this thread, I'd love to see someone "in the know" clarify for us whether we can expect DD_WRT to function properly on the R6900.
